I just about built myself out of the town today - i'm moving a lot faster than the first time around. There's a new function that allows me to copy and paste objects i make (sidewalks in particular) and save a ton of time. The first time i went through this, there was no copy and paste and i had to build each one individually. It gives me a headache just thinking about it.
I'll spend tomorrow evening finishing the first town area and polishing up what i've done, then it's on to the straightaways out of town. I'm thinking of saving a lot of the distant terrain work and a lot of the foliage detailing for after i've got the track complete enough to race on. We'll be able to get to the fun part a lot sooner that way.
Also, since i've been forced to build the pit and garage area from the start, i'm noticing some cool ways to tie certain streets of the town together. Once i've got the main track finished, i can imagine a cool alternate version coming from this.
And with the buildings available now, tracks like Gas Town or Industrial are within reason without having to build a custom set of models. It would still be a massive undertaking, but it's not out of the realm of possibility. First things first, of course. _________________

Been slowly plugging away at the track throughout the week. I built my way out of town and started into the straightaways. I was almost built up to the bridge when i realized the new terrain tools i'd been using were accidentally grabbing bits of terrain on the other side of town and screwing them up bad. It was something i couldn't Ctrl+Z my way out of, so i deleted a couple hour's work and loaded a backed up version i made Saturday night.
It wasn't too big of a loss and i learned some stuff from it. I'll probably have that and more by Tuesday night.
Anyway *BZZZT*
Over and out. _________________

Hey guys – progress has been slow but steady this past week. I think I’m finally getting a decent balance between work/wife and my various projects. Time will tell…
I’ve also been thinking about the various things I could do with the track when the time comes. To begin, i've decided to build a blog page for it where i can do most of my bla bla bla-ing about it. Since it won’t just be rFactor that i export the track to, it made sense to put something together that’s a little more general. I’ve also been itching to build a page around the project with the various links I refer to when building it and some graphics that fit the theme.
I’ll still be posting here as I go along, but I’ll probably be dumping more of my thoughts and ramblings as I go along on the blog. It’s open for anyone to comment on right now, so hopefully some of the other track builders out there and random MCO enthusiasts will feel inclined to comment on stuff. I’ll probably end up with a bunch of spam and have to pinch down on comments settings at some point, but I’ll try it this way for awhile.
Anyway, I hope that’s all cool with you guys. You’ll find a link to this forum right at the top of the list, so hopefully it can point at least a few more people in this direction.
Here’s the link:

Talk to you guys soon! _________________

Hey Ayce! You've also found some very cool guys who would probably be willing to test out any of your tracks in rFactor when the time comes. They're very familiar with how tracks in rFactor should play and might be able to identify stuff you might not otherwise notice. In fact, thanks to Durod, i still feel a twinge of guilt every time i back the camera up enough to reveal my buildings without roofs. I need to get off my lazy ass and fix that... _________________

Thanks! Yea, this is looking waaaaay better than that first version. I'm excited for some night time racing with lap times that actually register. _________________

Hey thanks Bob! I've finally got a weekend where i can put some hours in on it. I'm not quite near the point where i can kick out a testable version, but i could be damn close to having a basic 'Dead Man's Loop' by the end of the weekend.
I'll post an update here as soon as there's something that works. _________________

Thanks guys - I'm finally caught up with the previous version of the track; minus the foliage. I just wish the video quality was better on these. I guess my 'encoding for youtube' skills aren't quite up to speed. Makes me want to post links to the wmv versions on the blog. In fact... _________________

I managed to get quite a bit done in the past few days. If you guys want, i could kick out an undetailed, but raceable version of Dead Man's Loop by the weekend. It will at least have a lot more track built than the last version i gave you guys and it'll have working lap times.
It won't be too much longer and i'll have a near complete version of just the loop. The detailing doesn't take nearly as long as the track/fence/terrain stuff, so it's just a matter of a few long evenings and i'll have it.
Some screenshots and babbling are here:

Hey guys - i'll be bouncing an ugly but raceable version of Dead Man's Loop over here sometime this evening or tomorrow morning. There's more detail about the state of things in my most recent blog post.
I'm thinking that anyone who wants to give it a shot is more than welcome. They'll just need to keep in mind that it's all about how the track feels and not about how it looks. Yet. So - i'll probably just post a link to it here in the public forum and then let people on the various MCO related boards know they can check it out here if they want. _________________

I went ahead and created a new thread just for Dead Man's Loop. It's now downloadable! _________________
